Details of Boston

Boston is a happy, friendly, handsome 5 year old Staffie, with a rich tan and white coat. Boston, with his playful & joyful nature, has become one of the volunteer favourites and it’s easy to tell by the smirk on his face – he looooves the doggie ladies! (as you can see by his photos!) He has such a smooth hypnotizing way with the ladies, that he’s constantly spotted lounging on the volunteer sofas, getting hours of belly rubs. He just loves to be touched by his carers and by the physiotherapist – every day you will see someone in the shelter sitting somewhere and rubbing Boston. He absolutely loves human attention. The moment someone comes to his kennel, his tail wags, and his big puppy-dog eyes make it impossible not to give him some love.

Treats also are Boston’s motivation and you can see it by his well-fed bodyshape, he sits politely for snacks. Boston also loves the water! One of his favourite hobbies is chasing the water hose when the team tries to wash down his kennel, and in the summer time, when we have many small pools set up for dogs, he hops from pool to pool like a big goldfish. Boston lights up when it’s time for his one daily walk. He can pull a little on the leash, but that’s only because he’s so excited to leave his kennel, his once-a-day walk is truly the highlight of his day. During the walk he relaxes and gets into sniffing mode. He loves to run in the grass of the dog park and really enjoys himself, something he couldn’t do where he came from.
So full of joy and curiosity, it’s clear how beautiful his soul is, he embraces the world with happiness and a love for life that’s impossible not to admire.

Boston came from a pound that was closing down and he had been there 4 years without outdoor exercise or much human contact, and has now made his quick way to recovery from the past of neglect and misery.  We noticed that Boston is especially sensitive on his lower back area, and that his tail is holding in a curved way. A visit to the traumatologist showed that there has been some sort of impact to a vertebra in the lower back, causes the position of his tail to be curved. Boston receives anti-inflammatory/pain medication for discendopolosis in the area of the impact, and also physiotherapy is prescribed to him, like to many of our residents. He loves the physio and the attention.

Boston would love a home with a steady schedule, a relaxing home environment without small children. Even though he likes children, he is most suitable for a home with adults, with medium level of daily activity. Children from the age of 14 years would be an option – mostly for the caution of not hurting his lower back by jumping/pressing on the area, running into him etc. Boston is open and social with majority of other dogs, especially social females, and likes to go for walks with them. He doesn’t really enjoy dominant/threatening male dogs. Boston travels well in the car.  He is tested negative for Mediterranean diseases.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas:

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
