Our big, fluffy boy is a Caucasian Shepherd and he stands at large height. He has a double coat, which would have been useful for his work as a livestock guarder at some time in his life. He has come from a home, as our foster home tells us he knows plenty of things about the house. He isn’ttested for cats and he likes other dogs they can be a bit intimidated by his size. He has a friend who is a neutered bitch and they get on fine. He needs an experienced home with big dogs and people with the patience to help him with his guarding. We have been told he is a rare breed, but please note he has been neutered
No cats, and children over 14 we think is best

Best Points:

Very loving and learns boundaries super fast

Foster Report:

Han is settling in nicely! When he arrived, Han immediately flopped down on the carpet as if he owned the place! He’s good on lead but we are quite rural here so he has lots of new things to sniff and investigate. He’s very excited to meet our neighbours dog, but adjusted his behaviour to be more polite. They’ll be buddies soon. Han’s clearly spent time indoors as carpets/tiling, washing machine, kettle, telly, etc didn’t faze him AND the bonus is he’s house trained. He even scratches at the front door when he needs toileting. Night walks before bed, and he sleeps all night.

Mealtime he is good. No resource guarding issues at all, just super impatient.  Reminding him of his “sit” command, just needs practice. Very food motivated, so quickly picks it up. He’s affectionate, seeks out fuss & scratches from us. We’re very much allowing him to seek it out. Han’s wary of other people passing the house and garden so he barks,It’s not at all aggressive, but rather reactive coupled with the breed’s usual wariness & guarding traits.  Neighbours driving through our gate are barked at and its likely this wariness & tendency to bark will be lifelong in some degree, as these are breed traits.

Have checked and he’s happy to have his face, ears, legs & feet touched. I’ve clipped some mats between his toes, and I need to give him a bit of a hygiene trim. Thankfully, he likes being groomed. Han’s a very confident dog, he’s intelligent and eager to please. He knows very well he’s bigger & badder than most dogs so he’s really not intimidated. People, though, he’s wary of, men in particular. Barking & warning growls. We’ll work on this as he settles. Plenty of people here who’ll happily help with this. Can do careful neutral ground walking introductions & see how that goes. Easier once he trusts us.
Han’s a big, fuzzy hunk of love to his chosen people. Others he’ll come to tolerate with a little more grace as he begins to trust my judgement & leadership.

Adopting A DogWatch UK Rescue Dog

Before being adopted, dogs will have been vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped
All new owners will need to change their new dogs microchip information to their contact details. This costs £17. If you would like us to arrange this for you, at a reduced rate of £7.20, we will ask you to do a bank transfer to allow us to register the change.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
