Why should I insure my pet?
We know that, having adopted an animal from us, you want to give it the best life possible. However, the high cost of veterinary treatment can lead to difficult choices. In the worst case scenario, an owner is unable to afford the treatment cost (understandably so in some cases) and the owner has to opt for a less effective treatment option, or a less effective treatment option. That’s where pet insurance can provide that peace of mind that you do not have to make these difficult decisions, enabling you to focus on caring for your pet.
Why is it important to choose the insurance?
Once you decide to buy pet insurance, the key is to focus on buying the ‘right’ pet insurance. It’s extremely important to get this right from the outset as in our experience, if you don’t purchase the right policy early on you may struggle to switch to a better policy at a later date. This is because changing insurer could result in a break in cover and may mean conditions you have claimed for previously become pre-existing.
We recommend that you ask the following six key questions so you clearly understand what each policy does and doesn’t cover:
What is the age limit for illness cover?
How much cover is provided for diagnostics and complementary treatment?
What is the Veterinary Fees excess?
Will the insurer pay the vet practice directly?
Will the insurer increase the excess or premium following a claim?
Does the policy provide lifetime cover, or are conditions excluded after 12 months?
