Loki is a gorgeous, medium-height Podengo lad from Portugal and he has a soft, tan and white coat and a lovely personality. Loki is a DWUK homing and is looking for a new home because the family have recently had a new baby, that Loki cannot cope with, and the family have to keep them separate. They are gutted and don’t want to let Loki go, but they know it is important that they protect him and the new child before anything serious happens. We are looking for a home with no cats and only children over 15 years – with or without another friendly dog.

Loki turned 4 on the 29th March. He is around 23 kilos and 20 inches tall. His likes are food, treats, a comfy bed, walkies, night time cuddles in bed. He likes to be with people but not necessarily showered with affection, affection is when he is ready. He loves to play ball, absolutely loves it. Loki dislikes cold surfaces and having to sit on cold surfaces, he doesn’t like being alone, he is sensitive soul and does not like being shouted at, he is terrified of fireworks for instance and we have a Thunder Jacket for him when its time. He knows some basic tricks, and we have never let him off the lead unless it’s enclosed space, as his recall is poor. He loves running in the secure field we take him too and also let him off in the local tennis courts, other than that hes happy running around the garden. He gets nervous if kids come up to him in the street, and he has never lived with a cat, not sure he could as he chases them. Not sure about other dogs, sometimes I think he would love another dog to live with as I know he lived with a lot of dogs before we adopted him. He is not aggressive, but does have resource guarding with food around other dogs, but that can be overcome as he has a lovely temperament, he walks good on a lead mostly, he reacts to big long haired dogs for some reason on walks if we see one.

His Best Points :

Very loving and gentle, almost a vulnerable air about him.

Adopting A DogWatch UK Rescue Dog

Before being adopted, dogs will have been vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped
All new owners can apply for 4 weeks Pet Insurance  FREE, to apply please ask us for the pamphlet, our charity reference number is 1400005179.

All new owners will need to change their new dogs microchip information to their contact details. This costs £17. If you would like us to arrange this for you, at a reduced rate of £7.20, we will ask you to do a bank transfer to allow us to register the change.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
