This gentle soul is Martha she is a lovely medium sized, mature lady who needs a nice family to love her. She is tan in colour with white chest, front paws and a white muzzle. She loves to play with toys or relax in her basket. Since she has been in foster in the UK, she has really built up her confidence and is so looking forward to finding her forever home.
Martha was a nervous little girl when she first came to the Portuguese shelter. She was very ill as she had been living rough in the cold and damp, so was taken into foster.
She been treated for a large hernia which has been repaired and she feels much better now.
She does get on with other dogs but may prefer to be an only dog. She gets on well with cats.
Her Best Points :
Martha is friendly dog who loves to cuddle and play. Would make a nice companion for an older person as Martha loves to get all the fuss, and we think she would like a quiet home best.
Foster Report :
Martha is a calm 8 year old female who has settled into her UK foster surroundings well. She loves her morning strolls getting excited once she knows it is time to go out and likewise with evening walks. Martha is very easy to handle on a lead and with gentle control is comfortable to walk. She does get nervous around loud passing traffic but with some reassurance she soon moves on and is getting more confident during each trip. Martha is happy to mix with other dogs after the initial cautious greeting and a sniff and likes to steel any attention from their owners.
When at home she enjoys wondering around the garden and will come back in when she’s ready. Martha will sit all day being cuddled and will cheekily ask for more when you stop, if in her bed she will roll over for a nice tummy rub, shes a really loving dog.
After her walks she likes to go to bed but always has one ear up and one eye open waiting for you to call her over for some love and wags her tail when you talk to her.
Martha is house trained, walks comfortably on her lead, friendly around people and accepting of other dogs. You couldn’t wish for a better companion to have around and she will make a great sole mate.

Adopting A DogWatch UK Rescue Dog
Before being adopted, dogs will have bee vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped
All new owners can apply for 4 weeks Pet Insurance FREE, to be activated from the link on our website
For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas
This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
