This cute little boy is Loki, he is a collie type with a tan and black silky coat and he stands at medium height. Loki is almost 2 years old and very friendly and a quick learner. He has the traits of a collie as he is inquisitive and happy to be out walking and sniffing. He loves cuddles with his foster and now new family,  and was always happy to join in play with the other pups at the shelter when he was there.

He is good on his lead, but recently, where he was very social with other dogs he meets on his walks, he now is becoming lead reactive and needs firm control when meeting other dogs on lead. He is fine off lead meeting new friends, and he has been living with a female bulldog in his foster home in the uk, so is still a sociable little boy but obviously relishing his new found loving family too precious to share with other dogs on walks. Loki is so affectionate and a little angel in his home. We are looking for a home with or without another friendly female dog, and children over 8 years, he hasnt been tested for cats.

His mum is very upset to have to find him a new home but she has mild walking difficulties and Loki’s pulling is making her condition worse, so with very heavy heart she needs him to have another loving home. Loki has low level Leish and will need to be on a low cost maintenance programme to keep him safe. This entails a tablet a day – a pack of the 28 tablets costs about £4. We home many dogs with Leish and owners are informed and supported. Dogs live the same length lives as those without it. It is non transferable to other dogs or people. Poor Loki came from a situation where he was in danger, and we at DWUK are all very grateful to his family for loving him and trying hard to accommodate his pulling on lead.

His Best Points :

Happy, gentle, sociable little dog

Home Report:

First, we have to say we love him to bits, and since he has lived with us he’s been doing really well and has gained 2 kg  in weight. He is very food orientated and so easy to train, loves his cuddles, strokes, and sitting on the sofa and having snuggles. He Learns quickly and has learnt a lot of things, we have taken him to a trainer and been working with him to make walking easier. He Loves going for walks but can’t go off lead unless in a secure field. He’s got a lot more energy now and has built up muscle..he can run really fast!

He’s been in the Uk since March and he still gets a bit overwhelmed when places are busy it’s all just a bit too much for him so walking out in the countryside is better for him. Some dogs he gets every excited about and wants to say hello, but it can go wrong easily if the other dogs shows any sign of aggression so we keep our distance from other dogs on walks. He chases squirrels and anything that runs basically, he loves to chase things. He has obviously been mistreated by men in his past as he is guarded and he will be keen to scrutinise people that come to the house unsure they are friends or people to guard against. To help him feel at ease we usually keep him safely in another room if workmen visit as he feels threatened by them.

With us, the family, he’s a different dog when at home ; very cuddly, affectionate, loving and gentle and really gets on with the kids. He follows me around and always sits with me. He is extremely protective. He just wants cuddles and love. We are working on his jumping up when excited, so older kids would be best. He’s learning to play with toys. He favours soft and fluffy ones. He also loves to chew on rice bones. He’s house trained and good at night. He listens really well at home when I ask him to not do something or go somewhere. He is patient and obedient at home. He’s also been really good at the vets for his check-ups.

He’d ideally live with someone who is strong. Walking him requires good perception due to his spontaneous behaviour ie chasing a squrril or another dog. He can pull really hard especially since he has now put on weight – which is why I’m unable to walk him and continue with his training. He can be left alone for a couple of hours and has been really good with it, he just sits by the back door waiting for me to come back. He does enjoy company. I think living with another dog (who he gets on with) would be good for him to learn from. He could be an ‘only dog’ with a family that is able to walk him lots and continue with his training and give him stimulation he needs. He seems to get on better with smaller dogs. He’s such a lovely boy and we all love him so much, but with my physical health getting bad very suddenly and how strong he has become I cannot give him what he needs and deserves. I want him to have the best life and someone to carry on the training we’ve been working really hard on.

Adopting A DogWatch UK Rescue Dog

Before being adopted, dogs will have been vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
If old enough they will have been neutered, if too young the new owners will need to ensure this is done.
All dogs are microchipped

All new owners will need to change their new dogs microchip information to their contact details. This costs £17. If you would like us to arrange this for you, at a reduced rate of £7.20, we will ask you to do a bank transfer to allow us to register the change.

For Rescue Dogs coming from overseas

This adoption fee is a contribution towards the costs of rescuing the dog including
– microchip, pet passport, vaccines, tests for South European diseases, neutering (IF OLD ENOUGH), parasite treatment and transport to the UK.
We can not home dogs from overseas to people who work full time or long hours, unless some sort of doggy day care is offered. They need someone at home a lot of the day, they are not used to being alone for long periods. A dog walker for an hour out of the day is not enough.
Leaving dogs a long time on their own means they are highly likely to develop separation anxiety which is distressing for them and everyone in their new home.
